Camden’s Race Report: Match Sprints

8.15.26 - Rock Hill SC
Camden Simon went to the 250m Velodrome at Rock Hill for USAC Sanctioned Match Sprint races on Saturday, competing in the Masters 40+ category. The races were originally scheduled for Thursday, but were rescheduled due to a rain out on the track.
The races stated at 11 am with the temps already at 92 F and climbing 98 F before the rounds concluded. Camden received the draw for the second start for the Flying 200 tt.
In training, he had moved to a significantly larger gear for the 200, so this was going to be a true test if the new gear combination would be a success. He posted a time of 12.304 sec for a new PR and earning the top seed in the bracket.
With only getting certified on a track in June, he quite satisfied with the improvement!
Camden changed out gearing but suffered from a broken chainring bolt. Thanks to the help from a kind and generous competitor, he was back up and running all set for the brackets.
All matches were slated to be best of three rounds culminating in races for 1/2 and 3/4. He managed to win through all rounds and ended up undefeated on the day winning each match up in the bracket in 2 straight races.

There was some tight competition and especially in the last match up for gold and silver, the tactics played a critical component as he was matched against a very experienced opponent whom he not previously beaten in previous matches.
All in all, a very successful day with some good lessons learned!!
