Fruit smoothie… yummy, yummy!

The Story Behind the Recipe:

Gotta love the Wiggles. This title is a subtle nod of thanks to the famous Wiggles from childhood. If you grew up in the 90s, who didn’t go running around the house saying “fruit salad… yummy yummy”? I’m not much of a fruit salad girl, myself. Alas the Fruit Smoothie. Fun fact I got to see and meet the Wiggles in SeaWorld in the 90s before they became big. That was cool as a kid. Perks of growing up in Tampa in the 90s. Busch Gardens, SeaWorld, the beach, and the backyard pool were our play grounds as locals. #Blessed

In my REDs recovery I found it extremely challenging to eat the carbs necessary for recovery. I found my self struggling. I noticed I could drink my carbs when eating was a struggle. I came up with the idea of smoothies! Easy to drink. Add whatever macros you need! Easy- Peasy! It can scale up or down based on macro goals!

Need all the carbs? Typically fruit juice plus fruit plus honey yields about 80g of carbs per serving.

Need less carbs? Reduce down to water, fruit, and Greek yogurt. Low macros looks like Water with lemon juice, frozen fruit, and Non Fat Greek Yogurt.

Need less protein? Switch to regular yogurt rather than Greek.

Need more fat macros? Add olive oil (you don’t taste it, and you get the macros!). High macros looks like: everything listed.

This smoothie was a game changer in helping me keep my energy up and support my REDs recovery!

Fruit Smoothie...Yummy, Yummy

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Fruit Juice (like 100% apple juice) or Water

  • 1 cup Frozen Fruit (blue berries, mixed fruit, mango, bananas)

  • ½ cup Non Fat Greek Yogurt (add a little more for more protein)

  • 1 TBSP Lemon Juice (optional)

  • 1-2TBSP Honey (optional)

  • Spinach (optional- yes, it will be green, but you don’t notice a taste difference)

  • 2 tsp Olive Oil (optional if fat macros desired)

Directions:

  • ***Please, wash your hands***

  • In a clean blender pour in 1 cup of fruit juice or water (if using water- highly recommend the lemon juice*)

  • Add fruit, Greek yogurt, and additional optional ingredients to blender

  • Blend until Smooth

  • Enjoy!

Personal Recommendations:

  • Personal Favorite Combos: Mango juice with Mangos. Blueberry/banana with Guava juice. Pineapple juice with mixed tropical fruit.

  • I try to use 100% juice when possible. I buy store brand to save $$$

  • Frozen fruit makes the smoothie cold and frosty without adding ice. You can do room temp or cold fruit instead of frozen fruit, but you may need to add ice.

  • We use the Ninja Blender- works great with the smoothie cups. I get replacement cups off of Amazon to have extras. If we toss them in the dishwasher over time they lose their shape and the blender bottom won’t twist on. Great solution for a frustrating problem!
